Strange Sightings

This evening as I'm heading out from gym and about to get into my car a guy yells out to me that he loves, LOVES my car. He's with a (?) girlfriend and he's looking quite cute. He approaches and asks me more details about the car and then asks me if he can kiss it it is so beautiful (he seems quite excited), and I'm like - "sure" - wondering if he's for real, and he does, he walks up and kisses the car. HE ACTUALLY KISSES MY CAR. I think I'd actually prefer he'd kiss me, but he's just kissed a car... His girlfriend says he's so gay, and he says he would be to drive it... and they walk off, though he appears to want to stay. I'm left standing smiling widely. And not quite sure where the gay reference came from, but not minding at all.

Random and Odd Things

I'm sittign here and there's a thousand things going through my head. I have 25 things here on my desk that the Frenchman wants me to sort through, there is occasional rain tinkering on the roof here that makes me look outside and I see the ocean which is steely blue and stormy right now. At times I've looked out and there have been dolphins and yesterday there was a pod so big I'm thinking 100 of them. They were just playing too - leaps into the air and the like. God I love living here.

I was walking man's best friend Norten yesterday just up the road and I hear this singing happening. This is new. I walk ahead and there is a guy wearing long pants, a button up check shirt and a backpack standing at the edge of the ocean on the cliff just singing away. It's operatic too and quite impressive, the view is obviously inspiring him and as I approach he notices me and stops singing, moving somewhat embarrassed from his position, and then passes me in the opposite direction. I see now that he's Japanese, and I have no idea how he found his way here - it's quite remote and there's no stereotypical tour bus in sight. I smile inside and out. I love this kinda stuff.

I also need to pack. For Byron Bay. The weather forecast says showers all weekend... Which isn't ideal for a beach weekend and an ocean swim race, but I guess we'll manage somehow, and for an ocean race who cares if it's raining or not? Well, it's best if it's warm and sunny for optimal eye candy like in the photo above... now that would be nice.

Strange Sightings

Singing in the... Toilet?

Last weekend in Byron Bay for the ocean swim, I'm at the surf club where I've picked up my race gear and go to the mens' - because I'm always a little anxious pre-race. And as I stand there waiting for a vacant cubicle, there's singing happening. I can't quite pick which cubicle it's from, but it's loud and interspersed with commentary, which I think might be part of the song to start with, but I'm not sure until it then becomes obvious that this is, in fact, a telephone call live from the toilet... The accent is distinctly Irish and he just doesn't stop, not for a second. The singing (not any tune I know, more like a child in a field singing in the sun as he or she skips to some random fairy tale in their head) just keeps on going. A cubicle frees up , and now I'm next to the guy. He doesn't seem worried by anything happenign around him, and volume is not an issue for him either. I'm not sure the other person on the line gets to say much because there isn't much in the way of gaps here in the music, and as I leave the men's the melody of this mixed song, conversation follows me outside and half way back to the race area.

Somewhere in the conversation he talks about wanting 'lots a pills'. I think he's already found them.

I wonder if he's still there, or if his mobile batteries have run out yet?

Strange Sightings #3

It's a developing theme - people parking in all kinds of odd places and ways. I thought it must have been a Croatian thing with the car below parked rather unusually near the beach in Split, but it's again near the beach, this time in Wollongong... It is a new trend? Is it a sign the world is coming to an end? It is nature taking a stance against global parking? Today's picture, above, involves a spontaneous tree collapse, not a breath of wind, nor a (known) drop dead gorgeous surfer stripping out of a wetsuit (although in this carpark it is entirely possible). And I could well empathise with such a collapsed in same circumstances. The one below - hmmm- it might well also have involved a distracting young man - but a mystery it shall remain...

Strange Sighting #3

While doing my crunches tonight at gym, the guy next to me on a fitball was chatting to someone on his mobile phone, I assumed. I continued with my crunches as he continued with his conversation.

Then he got up, and as he turned I realised, there was no mobile phone, no earpiece and no-one with him...
It was time for me to avoid eye contact, and move quietly and quickly to the nearest exit...

Strange Sightings No.2

Following on from strange sighting no. 1...

At Cook & Philip Park pool on Sunday I was showering after my swim and a guy walks in to the shower with an entire SCUBA outfit including tanks, wetsuit, the works... and showers - completely geared up...

I can hardly wait to see what happens when I go swimming this evening!

Strange Sightings No.1

After my regular morning swim at the uni pool today I was getting changed when two twentysomething guys walked into the change room - it looked like they'd been doing some kind of exercise, but not swimming. They undressed down to their underwear, then promptly stepped into the open shower, and showered WITH their underwear on. And it stayed on, when I left they were still wearing their wet and sagging underwear as they dried off...

I thought that was only something for underwear ads, mind you one of them was cute, but still, it's just wrong.
