The Race Continues...

Long time readers of superchilled will recall the Race Around the World... Where your challenge is to identify the location of the photo shown, or to create an interesting story to go with it. Today we have a new pitstop and it is a segueway into my next post. I need specifics, it isn't too hard.  Whoever gets the most accurate and most creative answers wins, and I might even send them a larger version of the photo (you know you want a close up of the men). For a medium size image - click on the photo. First and best win.

The race is on.

The Race Returns

Update: bonus clue below It's been some months since the last leg of The Race, where you're challenged to identify where the photo I've shot is taken... Here we were in a place which is bitterly cold but stunning. This was taken on the way to a swimming pool which was a whole cultural experience on its own (you can see the building in the distance behind the trees). Steam rooms filled with naked men ( I mean FILLED) some of them not unattractive... but no - not that kind of steam room... And a whole different pool etiquette.

Prizes to the first to identify correctly the location and to the most elaborate story to explain the picture.

The race starts now.

Bonus Clue: It seems this location is a bit tricky - so I'm adding a landmark from this same city below to help...

The Race continues...

The Race to Location 19

It seems there are few people game to hazard a guess at the location of the current leg of Race Around the World. So (thanks to a reader who will for the time being remain anonymous) we have an unprecedented 3rd photograph of the location below - this time in winter.
Hopefully it will help you arrive at the destination.
For the original photos and competition notes - see the race notification post here .
Oh, and if the cute man in the original picture is reading this. I want to hear from you!
Bonne Chance...

The Race

Location 19... where is this? (click for large view)

It was a tight finish in leg 18 of Superchilled Race Around the World, and Jessica beat everyone to identify Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich as the location for the photo. Yarravillepaul won the popular vote, intoxicated and in the gutter of that same street, he just didn't know where he was.

Which brings me to today's race location. Summer is getting closer here, and coming to an end up there in the northern hemisphere, so we can all enjoy the beauty of the summer swimming pool. But where is this one? And what is the man sitting in the foreground thinking?

First correct and most creative entries for the respective questions win.
Your Race starts NOW.

Race Around the World - Stop 18

The Superchilled Race Around the World continues. Last stop found us in Berlin being ambushed by local women, as correctly identified by Brenton who it seems does get out. But where have we stopped this time? And where have all the people gone?

The winners are the first to identify the location correctly and the most creative answer...

Race Around the World - Location 17

Leg 17: Where am I? And who are these women?

In leg 16 of Superchilled Race Around the World, we ended up at the Hilton Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand, as correctly identified by Peter von Amsterdam. There were a few tackles at what we could identify in the swimming pool at that same hotel (see here), and while I liked a lot of the entries, especially where there was sex involved, 'Cloning the perfect boy' was not quite what I expected and wins the most creative prize for Sue.

Back to the photo above - and can you elaborate on what's happening here, and where... ?

The race starts... NOW.

Superchilled Race Around the World Continues...

It's been a whole month since the pint sized penguin won leg 15 by correctly identifying The Glasgow Science Centre. Congrats also to Peter von Amsterdam who came up with an exceptionally creative guess which was so SOO wrong. click on the 'race around the world' - label below for the posts. Of course I've been racing around the world myself scouting for more pictures for the next series of the race - and it's time to set off again on your virtual race around the world.

Alas, your e-tickets are issued, and you're all ready to go. But where am I taking you?

Does anybody know?
And what are they doing in the pool?

First in with the correct answer wins the coveted prize. Most creative answer wins the respect and incredulity of the blog reading world.

The Race - Location 15

Do you know where this is?

In the last leg of Superchilled Race Around the World Peter von Amsterdam came first, correctly identifying Katz's Diner in New York City from my photo, and also the pastrami on rye (right) which was the meal we ate when there (it was huge - The Frenchman and I had to share) certainly a culinary must. Brenton from Aussielicious guessed Myers Food court (a shopping centre food hall in Sydney) so he's on a 'get out more' plan.

Your task is to identify the location of the photograph above correctly and most rapidly. Do you know where it is? Add your comment and let me know - first to correctly identify it wins, and the most creative guess also gets accolades.

The Race starts NOW.

update: 20thJune
New Clue: To get there - you need to head to the UK...

First in correctly gets the pick of the menu, tell me what I ate here and you get the bonus points.

Superchilled Race Around the World Winners - Leg 13

Leg 13 found us inside the Guggenhiem - this time in Bilbao, Spain. The architecture of the building itself was probably more interesting than the exhibits when we visited - but they were good too. A lot of people complain about Bilbao - but we loved it. Not a big city - but certainly quite animated and fun to explore - which we did mostly on foot.
Lynnette wins this leg of the race, identifying the location correctly first, and Altraeis get's the award for best event planning in the space photographed (see below) because well, a foam party and naked men just wins....

Location 12 winners & Location 13

Leg 12 was a keenly contested race - with Peter von Amsterdam ultimately winning over Altraeis who were just minutes apart with their final correct entries. Well done guys. (see leg 12 below for details)
The latest in the race around the world series is above. (click on it to enlarge) Do you know where this photograph is taken? In a slight twist - this leg we continue to have the first correct entry - but also a challenge... What would you do if you could book this space for an event of your choice?

Location 11 winners + New Location 12

In Leg 11 of Superchilled Race Around the World, we travelled to Split in Croatia the gateway to the Dalmation coast... (We'll be heading south of there again later this year.) Altraeis got lost in Prague & a few other locations along the way - but good effort there mister!! The winner was Maple Leaf Terry in Sri Lanka who hit the nail on the head. Altraeis gets the best effort award this time.
Now for the next leg. Pictured below is one heightened perpective on this location. Can you tell me where we are? First in correctly wins. Get somewhere near or creative and win the alternate prize.

The Race Continues... Location 11

We've had a rest this past week from racing around the world, Byron being the oasis of choice. But now the race is underway again. As previously, if you can be the first to correctly name the location of the photograph above from our travels, then you win first place. If you can create an entertaining alternative guess then you're in the running for the creative prize.

Location 10 - Revealed

Superchilled Race Around the World was keenly contested in this leg. With contestants essentially working together to find the final correct location. Craig correctly got there first "Ta Prohm Temple" in Cambodia, part of the Angkor Wat temple complex, as initially suspected by Brenton.

We travelled there in 2005 when The Frenchman had a work seminar there and figured we should take advantage of the free accommodation in a place that we had heard great things of. It was much greater than I expected and Ta Prohm was my favourite location (featured in one of the Tomb Raider films). It's the awesome trees growing over the top of everything that makes it even more sensational. The gastro that I developed in the last 2 days. when we had planned farther afield day trips, was not so sensational, well, perhaps it was, but for all the wrong reasons. Overall though it was a great although limited experience of Cambodia.

On this leg Geoff gets the 'most creative' prize with tourist photos of everyone BUT himself at the temple and locations resembling Ta Prohm. Well done everyone.

Race Around the World - Location 10

In the previous leg of Superchilled Race Around the World we took you to the inside of the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, as correctly guessed by Monsieur Le Monty, not the entry for our new home in Stanwell Park as suggested by the ever grandiose Craig, prizes will be coming your ways.

Location 10, photographed above, is the next stage in our tour around the world. Have you been here? Know where it is? I want specifics. Again if you have a photo with yourself here - bonus points - email it and I'll post it. Be creative and you too can be in the running, and Craig, no it isn't the garden for the new Palace De L'Stanwell Parc.

Superchilled Race Around the World - Location 9

After posting location 8 in Superchilled Race Around the World - which was the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, Western Australia, it took a whole of what seemed like 3 seconds for Peter von Amsterdam to enter and win with the correct details for that leg of the race. There were no entries for most creative because, well, I guess it was a hotel - nothing ever happens at hotels... Congrats Peter, winning yet again!

So Today we have Location 9. Have you been here? Know where it is? Have a photo of yourself here? Bonus points if you do! Have no idea? Be creative - make up a convincing story
and win!
Anyone can race - you don't need to be a blogger - no ID fingerprinting nor iris scans required.

Superchilled Race Around the World - Location 8

You've all been waiting for it - now here it is - Leg 8 of Superchilled Race Around the World. Can you identify where this picture is taken? As previously, prizes are awarded to the person who gets the answer right first and the most creative answer in by the time I'm ready to make a decision. Fittingly for a Friday it's a Hotel - but who will be able to meet there for drinks after work?

Location 7 - the winners

This leg of the race has been won by a new entrant, Anonymous Neil, who correctly identified Kitzilano Pool in Vancouver from my photograph. Peter von Amsterdam sent in the picture below from his helicopter vantage point. It shows more clearly why it is one of my favourite pools, the 137.5m length creates difficulty calculating how far you've swum, but is quite unique, (they do have markers every 25m on the floor of the pool to let you know where you're at).
Geoff d'Vancouver also correctly identified the other reason for its popularity - THE MEN - abounding in and around it. In my photo, which was a merging of a few individual photos, you get to see one cute man twice - from the front and back as he walked from one end to the other during my photographing. (or was that the reason for the multiple photos..? hmm)
To maintain diplomatic ties, Geoff d'Vancouver gets the prize for, um living in Vancouver, and Peter von Amsterdam the research grant.

Sponsors for actual real prizes for superchilled race around the world are more than welcomed. Location 8: coming soon...

Race Around the World - Location 7

The Race is on. Being the avid swimmer I have a collection of favourite pools around the world. Here is one of them. Do you know where it is? (click on it for the larger view) There's also a kind of illusion in the image too - a nice one - can you identify it? Winners are the first correct, and most creative responses. Bonus points if you can tell me how long it is. See you at the deep end. Good luck!

race around the world leg 6: completed

Monsieur Le Monty has won leg 6 of Superchilled Race Around the World, correctly naming Bucharest, Romania as the location of the House of the People, pictured earlier: location 6, and above. Thanks for the detailed history, Monty. Craig is runner up, for reasons that will become obvious when you read his entry.

The next leg of superchilled race around the world kicks off shortly. Be ready.

New to superchilled and the race? Click on the 'race around the world' link below for the background. Photos I've taken from various locations on the planet will be posted - and your task is to correctly identify where they are - or to make some elaborate / entertaining guess. Everyone can and should enter - life is too short to sit on the sidelines.
