If we lived in an advanced country this is the man who I'd call my husband. But for now I guess he's the guy who lives in a house we bought together and have lived with for over a decade... Imported from France for this purpose, he also makes a fashionable accessory and is a welcome addition to anyone's home.

Cute.. The French do seem to have the best accessories. What is the status of unions/marriage in Aus? I heard they would be acknowledging unions made in other countries?
You're much more advanced in South Africa than here I believe. In Australia they actually legislated AGAINST the recognition of overseas marriages federally, so with the Howard government we're slipping backwards, and while we have some laws protecting us, officially we have no status as a couple. We're 2 single guys sharing a house... end of story...
