Exercise Motivation

I was chatting to a friend today about motivation to exercise. The pump class he likes is much more popular with girls than guys, which for a straight guy would be great - but he's not. He was really pumped (pun intended) when it was announced the new instructor would be a guy - and deflated when it turned out not to be the case. I know when I swim if there's a really cute guy training in my lane - I can really get quite distracted - training focus goes out the window and I can get lost an aquatic dream... Embarrassing I know, but I don't mind. If he's fast - I'm going to push myself harder to maintain the pace...

Yes there are always the long term goals, physical health, a general sense of well being from the exercise itself and possibly friends and coaches who can all be motivational factors, but it's amazing the power of sexual attraction that will push you harder... and faster... and keep you coming back for more...

Do you find someone cute a help or a hindrance when you exercise?

Yeah, if that photo doesn't motivate us I'm not sure what will...

I can't decide... my training partner is cute and buff but straight so it's a nice balance. A bit of eye candy to help get me to the gym at 6am but no real distraction.

I hate guys at my gym. No, I'm not a blanket hater, I just think body builders with leathery skin, shaved everything and massive veins are unattractive. Plus, they take too long when using the machines. I do find motivation in the longer term benefits (and my hot abs in the making).

I guess by definition spamouflage those gym junkies are not attractive to you - but what if it were someone who you DID find attractive?

I love watching the men at my gym exercise. When I'm not feeling up to the gym, I remember the people I know I at my gym and that they didn't get their figures by doing nothing.

Good bodies, male or female, are motivators for me when I'm surrounded by them. I also get a high to exercise when I look good myself (that's not always the case). The most consistent motivation is to have a healthy heart and to just generally feel good (endorphins, adrenaline, powerful). I love working out. They should get rid of all the t.v.s in the gyms though. It makes most people chillax too much. - Eunah, Toronto CAN
